Miro’s 52 Songs of 2014

As 2014 is coming to an end, here are the 52 songs that defined the year for me. These are the songs that resonated with me and some I had on repeat for days on end.

There were several albums that dominated my listening this year, (and I’ll post my albums of 2014 soon), so I limited this playlist to one song per artist. Also, I chose Spotify as the means of creating this list, so Taylor Swift is not on it, but otherwise, “Blank Space” would be included on this list.

In no particular order, here are the 52 songs that defined 2014 for me:

What were songs that you enjoyed in 2014 that weren’t on my list?

Ed Sheeran – “Sing”

Love Ed Sheeran’s new song “Sing,” but it did take a few listens. Initially, I wasn’t feeling it as an Ed Sheeran song… good song, but it wasn’t what I expected. I really like the falsetto and it’s really grown on me.

I really love this song and think it’s a great lead single for his new album, X (Multiply). I hope the album is a mix of “Sing” and more singer-songwriter-y songs.

Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran – “Everything Has Changed” Music Video

Yes! Two great young talented singer-songwriters, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, on a very catchy pop tune.

And finally, a solid mature single from Taylor!

This is one of my favorite tracks from Taylor Swift’s album, Red, and a solid song with Ed Sheeran. And good music video too… really like the reveal at the end. Good call!

I’m glad she released this as the next single… her album has so many great and mature songs, and most are very radio friendly. But thus far, she’s released the “fun” and “young” pop hits (which is her market and target demo), but I really enjoy her more mature sounding songs. That being said, I completely understand the reasoning and they’re all fantastically fun pop songs. “I Knew You Were Trouble” is a solid tune.

There’s not doubt she’s talented and a great singer-songwriter. As is Ed Sheeran, and this is the perfect collaboration. The best of both worlds.

And I like it. I like it a lot.
