Miro’s 52 Songs of 2014

As 2014 is coming to an end, here are the 52 songs that defined the year for me. These are the songs that resonated with me and some I had on repeat for days on end.

There were several albums that dominated my listening this year, (and I’ll post my albums of 2014 soon), so I limited this playlist to one song per artist. Also, I chose Spotify as the means of creating this list, so Taylor Swift is not on it, but otherwise, “Blank Space” would be included on this list.

In no particular order, here are the 52 songs that defined 2014 for me:

What were songs that you enjoyed in 2014 that weren’t on my list?

Song of the Day: alt-J – “Nara”

I first heard “Nara” by alt-J at an intimate penthouse performance they played for ALT 98.7, and absolutely lost my shit. It was amazing hearing the song live and up close for the first time. I couldn’t wait to hear the studio version, and again lost my shit hearing the first three songs on This Is All Yours, one of my favorite albums of 2014.

Typically bands play three to four songs, but alt-J planned on eight songs, and at the last minute, added a ninth song, “Nara.” I saw them play it at The Greek Theatre and again at the Life is Beautiful Festival in Vegas, and it gets me every time.

It’s one of my favorite songs by them (along with “Taro”), and one of my favorite songs of 2014.
