They’re Finally Here – Adele’s 21 and Lauren Pritchard’s Wasted In Jackson

Today is a HUGE day for music in the US. We finally get two brilliant albums that the UK has been enjoying for some time… Adele‘s 21 and Lauren Pritchard‘s Wasted In Jackson… incidentally, one must be 21 to be legally Wasted in Jackson. Jokes aside, both albums are worth picking up today.
The big massive album that’s being released today is Adele‘s sophomore album 21. It was released in the UK four weeks ago and has been the top selling album each of those weeks.

There is not a single song on the album that isn’t amazing. The standout tracks include Adele’s cover of The Cure‘s “Love Song”, the Ryan Tedder creations, “Turning Tables” and “Rumor Has It”, the country-esque “Don’t You Remember Me”, and the lead single, “Rolling In The Deep”. “Set Fire to the Rain” is set to be the next single, and is a brilliant anthem. The one minor let down is the studio version of her #1 single, “Someone Like You” – it’s an emotional song and thankfully Adele has been performing it often (amazing at the BRIT Awards). Her performances are amazing, and the studio version doesn’t quite do it justice.

I always prefer physical copies over digital ones, and I highly recommend picking up a copy from Target as it has 4 bonus tracks, including acoustic versions of “Someone Like You”, “Don’t You Remember” and “Turning Tables”. The fourth track is the cover of Lady Antebellum‘s “Need You Now” that Adele and Darius Rucker performed for CMT a few months back (here’s the video). That track alone is worth the album! If money is an issue, BestBuy has the album for $8 – it doesn’t have the bonus tracks, but it still has 11 fantastic songs.

Last night Adele was on Live on Letterman, performing an 8 song set from the famous Ed Sullivan Theater in New York. As expected, she was phenomenal. If you’re a fan of Adele and her quirky sense of humor, this is a must see. Check it out here.
The other big release is Lauren Pritchard‘s debut album, Wasted In Jackson. The album was digitally released last October, but now you can pick up a physical copy at your local music store (or Best Buy and Amazon).

The album has had four singles in the UK, starting with my favorite, “When The Night Kills The Day”, followed by another favorite, “Painkillers”, and “Not The Drinking”. The fourth single, “Stuck” was just released on Valentine’s Day is going to be released on the 28th of February in the UK. Aside from the singles, other standout tracks from the album include “Hanging Up”, “No Way”, “Bad Time To Fall” and the title track, “Wasted In Jackson”.

Lauren has been relentlessly touring in the UK and even opened for Florence and the Machine at their iTunes Live Recording. Lauren is finally back stateside, touring with Brendan James and Matt White (tour dates). She’s another artist who is a great live performer with an incredible voice and talent. I’m excited to finally catch her live show.

Here’s Lauren’s latest single, “Stuck”:

Adele tops both UK Singles and UK Album Charts!

Adele‘s album, 21 is still the #1 album in the UK for the 4th consecutive week!

She also has two songs in the top 4 on the UK Singles Chart – with “Rolling In The Deep” at #4, and “Someone Like You” topping the charts!

This makes “Someone Like You” Adele’s first #1 single! It was bound to happen -  I’ve been captivated by the song since I first heard her perform it on Later Live with Jools Holland months ago.

Both “Chasing Pavements” and “Rolling In The Deep” peaked at #2, while her cover of “Make You Feel My Love” made it to #4.

On Tuesday Adele releases 21 in the US – hopefully it will debut at #1, giving Adele her first #1 album in the US. Her debut album, 19, peaked at #10 on the US Album Charts.

Here’s Adele’s stunning performance of “Someone Like You” from last week’s BRIT Awards:

Download: Adele’s NPR Tiny Desk Concert

Adele‘s got a big massive voice, and it was on full display for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series. She sang three songs, the amazing “Someone Like You”, her classic “Chasing Pavements” (with Americanized ending), and her new single, “Rollin’ In The Deep”. My only complaint is that it was too short… I could listen to days on end (and I do – guilty!).

Watch the video below, or download the audio and enjoy it over and over again.

I’m a super massive fan of Adele. She’s so talented. Her voice just beautifully and effortlessly emotes so well, it’s brilliant. She’s only 22 years old and on her second album, and already has so many hits. She’s going to be around for years to come.

Be sure to grab a copy of 21 when it comes out on the 22nd of February.
