So it’s Friday and it’s time for another Friday Five!
Yes, it’s the first time I’ve done a Friday Five post, but I’m making it a thing. So look out for my weekly post every Friday, highlighting 5 songs you need to listen to right now!
1. “3 Miles High” by Travis
Travis are back! They’re one of my favorite all time bands and I’m stoked that they’ll be releasing their album, Everything at Once in April! “3 Miles High” is the second song we’ve heard from the album, the first being the title track, which to be honest, isn’t my favorite. Having said that, I do love “3 Miles High” and super stoked to hear the new album. Seriously, Fran Healy can do no wrong.
2. “Shine A Light” by BANNERS
I knew I HAD to recommend a song by BANNERS on this, but I wasn’t sure which one, as I love his EP. I’m stoked for his music and album. I went with “Shine A Light” because it’s one of my favorites, though any of the 5 songs on his EP could have worked here. He’s dope.
3. “Everything Will Be OK” by G-Eazy ft. Kehlani
Lyrics and story. I first came across G-Eazy backstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Vegas in 2014, and was impressed by his story. I also love how passionate he was about his music and art. I picked up his latest album, When It’s Dark Out, and it’s incredible. One of my favorite albums of 2015. One of the standout tracks is “Everything Will Be OK” which is autobiographical and I dig the honesty of his story and lyrics. I really feel like I get a sense of the real Gerald from the song.
4. “New Love” by Dua Lipa
I saw Dua Lipa at a showcase at YouTube Space LA (thanks YouTube) and I’ve been listening to her music and watching her grow her fanbase and it’s exciting. She was incredible at the showcase, and I’m glad she’s finally getting some much deserved props. Her song “Be The One” is also dope.
5. “Hurt Me” by Låpsley
I freakin LOVE this song. Her voice is amazing and this song just gets to me every time! It’s just too good. I’m looking forward to hearing her album soon. She’s playing at the El Rey in April, and I cannot wait to hear her live. Beyond Stoked.
And there you have it.. the first Friday Five with Travis, BANNERS, G-Eazy, Dua Lipa, and Låpsley!
