For the last few months, there’s been numerous changes in my life. It’s been necessary, but like all changes, it’s been tough. I was creatively frustrated and missed writing about music and artists I was passionate about.
It was serendipitous to hear Adele‘s new song during The X-Factor this weekend as I was making the final little tweaks on this blog.
Adele has always been one of my favorites, from early on. I championed here before her debut album 19 was even out. I was fortunate to see her at Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, which is a tiny little venue which I love. I was in the front row in March 2008, fully captivated, mesmerized and enchanted by the talent that is Adele. I met her, got a photo with her, & gave her the WORST dinner recommendation.
When Adele released “Rolling In The Deep,” and “Someone Like You,” she became a phenomenon, and so many people saw, heard, and more importantly, felt what I felt the first time I experience her music.
Through the years, so many of my friends have credited me with “introducing” them to Adele and championing her. To the point where I launched the first of my many blogs/website, which has resulted in this latest version. I’ve done the same with Ellie Gouliding, Florence and the Machine, Jessie J, Birdy, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Bastille, Hozier, George Ezra, James Bay, as well as Years and Years.
I LOVE music and I love sharing it, and getting back to writing about it has given me a much needed lift in my spirit and purpose.
It’s only right that today’s Song of the Day is the first song/performance I saw from Adele, and to this day, it still my favorite song/performance. It’s just magical. I’ve lost many of my earliest posts in all the transitions, but do have a post about this song/video from February 2010… two years after I saw her for the first time.
I’ve always felt a connection to London (even though I’ve never been and really really need to fix that!), and it’s the subject of this amazing song. When I heard “Hometown Glory” at Hotel Cafe in 2008, I really had a “moment” and it’ll forever be a special song for me.
Oh, and I LOVE the little snippet of Adele’s new song and cannot wait to hear the full album! I hope she does a Beyoncé and just drops it without any warning…. fingers crossed!
