“Miracle” is the lead single from HURTS sophomore album, Exile, which was recently released in the UK.
It’s not a departure for the duo, with the heavy synth production, the dark lyrics, and that amazing creepy voice of frontman Theo Hutchcraft.
I really love that while HURTS relies on synth in the production of their songs, they are still a synthpop band. They don’t overdo it and cross into the EDM genre, which is utterly redundant and often nauseating. HURTS on the other hand, remind me more of Depeche Mode and New Age. The production and overall sound of each song is similar, each song has a distinct story and melody, and is great synthpop.
And Theo’s voice! It really sets HURTS apart from other bands and contributes to the darkness, theatrics and production of the sound. I haven’t heard the entire new album, but am a massive fan of their debut album, Happiness, and “Miracle”.
