If you’re read or seen any of my posts/tweets in the past year of so, you know I’ve been a massive fan of Ellie Goulding. She’s had quite a breakout year in the UK with the success of her album, Lights, and the re-release Bright Lights.
She was even asked to perform for Prince William and Kate’s wedding reception. That’s a massive honor.
Ellie has been on a handful or US chat shows, but made her massive debut on Saturday Night Live this weekend, performing her album’s title track, “Lights”, and her fantastic cover of “Your Song”.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure if “Your Song” was a good song choice for the US. In the UK, people have heard her voice and songs and are familiar with Ellie, and would understand her take and brilliance. In the US, they might not be understanding or familiar and not like her take on such an iconic song.
But I think I may have been wrong. Ellie looked and sounded as good as I’ve ever seen her, showcasing her electronic and singer-songwriter sides.
Ellie’s appearance on Saturday Night Live has helped propel her career and album sells in the US.
Lights has been in the top 10 iTunes albums the past few days. Hopefully this is just a start and we’ll be seeing more of Ellie in the US.
Lights is also flying off the shelves on Amazon (the shelves of the warehouse at least), with only a handful of copies left. The digital copy of Lights is slightly less expensive on Amazon.com, which is also offering “Guns and Horses” for free.
It’s about time America discovers the brilliance of Ellie Goulding.
