It’s been 1o years since “Fallin'” launched the career of Alicia Keys and her then debut album Songs In A Minor. The album has sold 12 million copies worldwide and earned Alicia 5 Grammy Awards. Alicia is celebrating the anniversary with a special re-release of the album, including the first Vinyl pressing.
“It’s incredibly surreal for me to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of songs in A minor. Looking back on the journey, I’m truly moved by my fans and friends who’ve been with me and have supported me throughout my career. This album is possibly the most precious to me, as your first album only happens once, and so songs in A minor will always hold a special place in my life that’s filled with amazing memories. I’m so proud that the songs are still being enjoyed around the world, and I’m crazy excited to share, through the 10th Anniversary Edition, songs never heard before, and even more of my debut album with you.†– Alicia Keys from her official website
Alicia will also have a special intimate concert, just her and piano, in New York’s Beacon Theatre on June 30. The show is called titled “Piano & I: A One Night Only Event With Alicia Keys,†and will be amazing.
Three versions of the album will be released on the 28th of June, including a vinyl ($26), the 2-cd Deluxe Edition ($12), and the Collectors Edition ($30). They are available through Alicia’s official website.
The Deluxe and Collectors Edition include the original remastered album, as well as a second cd with 6 bonus tracks. There will also be new liner notes and photos, 16 pages for the Deluxe, and 24 oversized pages for the Collectors. The Collectors Edition also has a DVD documentary about the songs and recording of Songs in A Minor.
Alicia Keys has been one of my idols and a source of inspiration since I first heard “Fallin'”. I still get chills when I hear it. I remember falling madly in love with Songs In A Minor upon first listen, and it lived in my cd player for a really long time. There are so many amazing songs, especially the latter half of the album with “The Life”, “Never Felt This Way”, “Butterflyz”, “Why Do I Feel So Sad”…. “Troubles”, “A Woman’s Worth”, “Goodbye”… really, the whole album is solid on numerous levels.
I’ve seen Alicia in concert several times including a show the Greek Theater in support of Songs In A Minor. I also saw her at the Kodak Theater two days in a room for The Diary of Alicia Keys, and again at Honda Center for As I Am.
I’ve also had the fortune of meeting Alicia twice, including a visit on the set of her music video for “No One”. She’s an amazing person. She’s got a bright presence, is extremely kind and generous, and supremely talented. Being in her presence was truly magical and a definite highlight in my life.
Her subsequent albums have been great and she’s created some beautiful songs, but Songs In A Minor is on a different level. It’s excellence, from beginning to end. A brilliant introduction to the talents of Alicia as a singer, songwriter, pianist, poet, composer, philanthropist and an inspiration to millions.
