There’s a little more than 2 weeks until Fran Healy‘s highly-anticipated solo album Wreckorder (read: Recorder), is released on October 5th in the US (4th for the UK), and I can’t wait. I’ve been listening to my Travis collection in preparation. The first single is a song called “Buttercups” and is already one of my favorite songs from Fran and Travis. Fran is a brilliant songwriter and I’m really excited to hear what he’s been writing about these days.
Aside from “Buttercups”, we’ve heard “As It Comes”, a track that has Sir Paul McCartney on bass… yeah, Fran got a Beatle to play bass on one of his songs. What do you give a former Beatle as a thank you for playing on your record… vegetarianism. Fran and his wife decided to give up meat as a way of thanking Sir Paul McCartney. That’s very impressive, creative and bold. Take a listen to the track here.
You can pre-order a signed copy of the album here from Fran’s official website.
While we wait for the album to be released, here is a great 10 minute clip of Fran that includes some interview bits and three (edited) acoustic performances, “Buttercups”, The Travis hit “Big Chair”, and a new track called “Anything”. Enjoy:
Since I found that clip last Friday, I’ve literally watched it at least 50 times. And each time I watch it, my excitement for the new record is heightened. I’m also going to see Fran at a show in the next few weeks, which I’m really stoked about. I’ve been a massive fan of Travis for at least 10 years now, and am excited for this new chapter.
And now I wait until October 5th for my signed copy of Wreckorder and t-shirt….
