UK Rapper Chipmunk is re-releasing his album with new tracks called, I Am Chipmunk: The Platinum Edition on May 3rd. The new release has all 13 tracks from the original release, we all as 7 new songs.
There are a few things about this re-release that are interesting:
– The album was released in October of 2009 – only 7 months ago. It might be too soon or quick for a new album, but it seems like the first version just came out.
– Three singles from the album were released before the album was released, and two after, giving the album 5 singles. The first single was a track called “Beast” that peaked at 50. The second was “Chip Daddy Chip” and peaked at 17. The third was “Diamond Rings” which cracked the top 10 at#7. “Oopsy Daisy” was the fourth and topped the charts on October 17th of 2009. The last single peaked at #6 was “Look For Me”.
– Chipmunk is only 19 years old. He is still young, and is already one of the biggest writer/producer/rapper in the UK right now.
The lead single for the new release is a super catchy track called “Until You Were Gone” and features Dutch songstress Esmee Denters. The two are a perfect match for each other on this track and their musical genres collide. Chipmunk’s style is more hip-hop/R&B with pop flare, while Esmee is a pop artist with hints of R&B/soul in her voice. The two are also really young – he is 19, she is 21.
The song, like everything from Chipmunk, is super catchy from the get go. I really enjoyed “Oopsy Daisy”, but the rest of Chipmunk’s album wasn’t to my liking, although I can’t deny that he is talented and has a great style that is permeating a big chunk of the music scene in the UK. I really like Esmee Denters and think her sound and debut album, Outta Here, is great pop/R&B. And this song highlights and complements both artists. The chorus is catchy and Esmee sounds great. And the rap verses are on par with Chipmunk and his style. If you’re a fan of Chipmunk, you’ll enjoy the song. If you are not a fan, this won’t change your mind. In moderation, I’m a fan, and really enjoy this song.
