“A straight man, playing a gay man, in a lesbian song” – Fran Healy of Travis
Travis is a band I’ve been a huge fan since 1999, when I first heard the song “Why Does It Always Rain On Me?” from their sophomore album, The Man Who. Since then Travis has released 4 additional albums, a spectacular live storytellers inspired acoustic album, and more b-sides than songs on their albums (I want to say they have more than 150 b-sides). If you like Coldplay, you will love Travis.
Last April I was fortunate to see the guys live, and it was one of the best shows I’ve seen. Their music has a nostalgic feel, and with each song, I was moved. Travis’ music has been likened to Coldplay, only better. Aside from their brilliant songs/lyrics, and b-sides, Travis is known for their covers. I was fortunate to see this cover at their show, and it was insane. Very creative!
This is “I Kissed A Girl” like you’ve never heard it before. It is a great and catchy pop song, but Travis takes it to a whole new level. As Fran Healy puts it, he is “a straight man, playing a gay man, in a lesbian song”.
What do you think of Travis’ rendition?
